EVENTS
The Society holds a number of regular events during the year. Most events are held in the Town Hall. The web site will be updated as soon as the dates and details are known.
The main events of the year are:
The Annual General Meeting (normally held in April) at which the committee is elected and the annual accounts approved. We also usually have an invited speaker to talk on a topical subject – in recent years we have had speakers from Glenkerrin (Arcadia), HACAN Clearskies (plans for Heathrow expansion), and St George (Dickens Yard).
The Annual Award Ceremony (normally held in October /November). The winners of the Annual Award are presented with certificates by an invited guest.
In previous years the Society has also arranged a number of other special events. For example, in 2008 ECS contributed to the programme of talks on the newly published series of historical maps covering Ealing and surrounding areas. We also held a joint meeting with the University of the Third Age (U3A). For 2009, the committee is discussing several other ideas such as a special lecture to reflect the 20th year of the Annual Award, and another joint U3A meeting.
You are very welcome to attend the Executive Committee meeting, or a meeting of one of the sub-committees on Communications or Environment. The Executive Committee meeting is normally on the first Thursday of even numbered months (i.e. 5 February, 2 April, etc.) and the Communications sub-committee is generally 7 days beforehand in each case. You will be able to participate, bring up any concerns or ideas, or just observe if you prefer. Attending would be a good opportunity to influence what we do, and conceivably could be interesting for younger members of the family! Find out more at the AGM, or email us for more information.
